WARNING: There is this one part that's in Chapter 2 that might cause internal nosebleed for fangirls. Please keep a tissue box nearby. And... are you thinking of perverted stuff because of the word “tissue box”?
Well.... I had SNK in mind when I wrote this. I’m even listening to Utsukushiki Zankoku na Sekai and great escape. xD So yep, I’m gonna quote Mikasa..... “The world is cruel, but beautiful.”
The story will be in first-person, with Kuroko as ‘I’.
A/Ns are in bold. Characters’ thoughts are in italics.
Let the story begin! ^w^

You’ve seen fairy tales in story books with happy endings. But mine isn’t. Corrupted officials, starving families, irresponsible kings filled with greed -- I’ve seen them too much.
Will there be hope in this cruel world?

~CHAPTER 1~
I woke up to the familiar pungent scent of air. The colour of sky was the same -- a hopeless ambered-colour sky that was dyed with the light rays of the sun. Weeks have passed since the tragedy happened. I’m seeking refuge in the faraway forests, hoping to find another kingdom to live in. The animals that I hunted didn’t taste good. And the blood that I drank from them tasted horrible too. I knew my time was up soon.
And so, here’s my story.
______________________________________________________________________________
A few months ago, I was the prince of a fantasy kingdom. Different races -- humans, elves, shapeshifters, etc. lived together in harmony -- until an evil king rose to the throne -- and that was my father. I was supposed to succeed him. But I’m tired of my life as a prince -- I want to be a commoner. It’s better than witnessing officials bribing and using underhanded methods to get what they want. Telling my father was no use -- he was also the same. The root of all evil is money.
And here I am, in my spacious bedroom, missing my childhood friends -- Kagami-kun and Aomine-kun. I wonder how they’re doing now. Kagami-kun is a half human half shapeshifter, while Aomine is a skilled hunter, and they’re always getting into trouble... I just hope they aren’t caught by the officials yet. I can’t bear to go outside to look for them either. Families were starving, wearing ragged and dirty clothes even in in winter. It’s just too... saddening.
I had to attend a banquet today. The butlers and maids were busy preparing clothes for us. I offered to help, but they refused it. I sighed, and went back to lie down on my bed. I had wanted to escape the castle several times, but I was always stopped by guards. I had lots of attention in the castle, but lack of presence outside.
Is my life going to stay like this forever?
Meanwhile...
“How long are you going to stay there?” Aomine asked the tiger who was lying down on a grass patch. “It’s almost time for hunting.” He was equipped with wooden bow and arrows that were razor-sharp.
Kagami sniffed the air. “The animals are near.”
“I know you have a great sense of smell being able to shapeshift into a tiger, but will you just help me in hunting?!”
“Fine...” Kagami yawned, standing up. “The animals are right there.” He subconsciously pointed to the direction castle that Kuroko was living in.
There was an awkward silence as a cold breeze blew. A shadow of anguish fell across their faces.
“.... Dang it, Kuroko...” Kagami muttered, biting his lips. “If only you weren’t taken away...”
“.....” Aomine stayed silent. “I do have a way for you.”
“What..?” Kagami raised his eyebrow.
Aomine leaned closer to him, whispering something into his ear.
Kagami widened his eyes in shock. “But... that’s too...!”
“It doesn’t really matter, does it?!”
“....” Kagami still had a bit of skepticism in his face. “You sure we won’t be caught?”
“C’mon, I have a foolproof plan.” Aomine ushered Kagami into his house, discussing about the thing he was talking about.
(A/N: Timeskip) For some reason, I feel that I’ll meet Kagami-kun and Aomine-kun tonight again. I was happy, and it somehow put a smile on my face.
It was just 1 hour before the banquet starts. I was still unchanged.
“Young Master! Why haven’t you changed yet? The banquet starts in 1 hour!” Alicia, my maid, alerted. She’s the only person, with the other butlers and maids, that isn’t corrupted.
“Right, sorry..” I apologised. “Could you get me a cup of water?”
“Yes, Young Master...”
Before she could leave, I told her, “You don’t need to call me ‘Young Master’... it sounds really weird.”
Alicia sighed. “Well, Your Highness instructed me too....” She forced a smile.
I frowned. Then, Alicia left. She came back after a long while, with a cup of water.
“Why did it take so long?” I asked.
“Everyone’s busy, so.. gomen nasai,” she bowed apologetically. “I’ll take my leave now, Young Master.”
I nodded my head, although I felt that something was weird with the water.
Meanwhile, Kagami was so nervous that his heart skipped a beat. He made a run for the back door of the castle’s kitchen, not wanting anybody to see him, and met up with Aomine at the deserted backyard. He was gasping for air.
“Did anyone see you? And did you successfully do it?” Aomine asked, impatient for an answer.
“No one saw me... and yes, I did it,” Kagami replied. “Although I don’t know whether Kuroko will drink it or not.”
“I hope he does, though.”
I drank the water anyway. It felt normal. Just as I thought.
I went back to my bed.
I don’t want to do anything.
I don’t want to face the cruel reality anymore.
And somehow, my eye bags felt heavy. Did someone drug my drink? But it was too late to find out, I was already entering dreamland....
~END OF CHAPTER 1~
A/N: Look out for the Chapter 2 to find out what happened to Kuroko! ^w^
