~CHAPTER 5~
“Really? Thank you!” Oreki bowed and his spirits lifted. Then he left the room. “I guess I’ll go to the school president’s office and ask her to write about this so that the whole school will know what really happened...”
Oreki knocked on the door of the school president’s office.
“Come in!”
Oreki opened the door and went in. Inside, he saw a girl with light brown-orange shoulder-length hair sitting down crosslegged on the chair. “Uh... Kaichou?”
“You can call me Misaka-senpai,” Misaka said. “I kinda hate formality.”
This wasn’t what I expected... I had a different image of her.. Oreki thought. But never mind, I didn’t come here for that.
Oreki explained everything to Misaka, and she nodded her head the whole time. “Okay, leave it to me, I’ll make sure that you’ll be innocent by tomorrow morning,” Misaka assured. Somehow, Oreki didn’t feel quite relaxed, but he brushed that off. He went into the music room and met up with the others.
“Sorry everyone, I got caught up with something!” Oreki said in his usual mode.
“Seems like you’re fine now,” Kii said, smiling in delight. “Let’s all practice now!”
“Yeah!”
Kii was walking home with Oreki, as usual.
“Kazuto-kun, can you tell me what happened?” Kii asked. The atmosphere became serious.
“Well... I guess I could...” Oreki hesitated for a bit.
“On the first day of school, I said that the reason why I wasn’t in any of the first year classrooms was that I was taking my entrance exams, right?” Oreki said.
“Yeah...” Kii affirmed.
“The entrance exams ended earlier, though, so I thought I’d take a little walk around the school to familiarize myself with it. When I walked past the Gaming and Research Department’s office, I overheard a conversation about an error in Neuro Linker.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flashback - voices in the Gaming and Research Department’s room
“S-sensei!!! There’s a new bug in the Neuro Linker!”
“What?! It’s too late now, all of the Neuro Linkers have been distributed!”
“It shouldn’t affect that big, it’s just a minor bug.”
“Has all the game manuals been distributed yet?”
“Not yet.”
“We’ll include every information inside, there’s a risk of corruption in the game. Especially the Death Scythe. Hurry!”
“H-hai, sensei! But what should I write?”
“The Death Scythe’s weakness is short-distance combat and it’s vulnerable to fire attacks. Since this is normal for some floor bosses to equip it when they are left with their last bar of HP, it will depend fully on the Death Scythe - don’t miss any word!”
“H-hai!”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“But I never knew the Death Scythe would come so early that the first floor boss would have it,” Oreki said, then laughed a little. “Don’t worry, I’ve met Misaka-senpai to ask her to write an article about this and post on the school’s news website, so hopefully everything will clear up.”
Oreki unknowingly activated Kii’s fangirl mode.
“OMG, YOU MET MISAKA-SENPAI?!! HOW DID SHE LOOK LIKE?!! Damn it, I wanna see her famous Railgun attack!!” Kii squealed, her eyes glittering like diamonds. “Oh yeah, did you see Shirai-senpai?!”
“Uh... I didn’t see the school’s vice president...” Oreki said, knowing the reason why she asked that. “Although I think her most used skill is teleportation, according to the rumours...”
“TELEPORTATION?!! I can’t think of how teleportation would work with electricity...” Kii was surprised. Misaka and Shirai had to be the strongest duo in the VR world. “But wait, why do I feel like I’ve forgotten something?”
Oreki facepalmed, because Kii forgets everything when she fangirls. Oh well, she’ll know the full story tomorrow anyway.
The next day, Oreki opened the school’s news website (hologram) screen and he saw the news. “I guess now I can finally heave a sigh of relief...”
Suddenly, an announcement came.
“Oreki Kazuto from 1-B, please come to the Gaming and Research Department’s office.”
Huh? I thought the bug had already been fixed? Oreki wondered as he walked to the Gaming and Research’s office.
“Sumimasen,” Oreki said, knocking on the door, then going in.
“Oreki-kun, sorry to say this, but..” Gai-sensei said, with a look of disappointment in his eyes. “We couldn’t fix the bug.”
“W-what...?” Oreki was stunned.
“Due to this error, tomorrow we’ll make an announcement tomorrow that the corruption of the floor bosses’s weapons switches is a feature of the game specially for this year’s first-years,” Inori-sensei explained. “We’ve tried our best to fix it, but to no avail.”
“I-I see...” Oreki said. “No choice then... we’ll accept the challenge!” Then he left the room. (Note: I think this part was a bit of a rush, but I didn’t know how to explain it ;w;)
“Looks like this year’s gonna be interesting,” Inori-sensei said.
“Yeah,” Gai-sensei replied.
Oreki was... disappointed at the news. But, he felt... happy? Why? Is it because strong opponents means the battles will be more interesting? He still couldn’t understand his heart. He walked to his classroom and sat down on his seat.
“Oreki-kun,” Satoshi said, scaring Oreki a little.
“Uh.. what is it, Satoshi?” Oreki said, surprised.
“Let’s all work hard,” Satoshi said with a smile.
Oreki had a feeling Satoshi already knew everything from the last line he said.(Note: The main reason’s probably Satoshi is a tantei otaku xD) But he didn’t mind it. “Yeah!” He said with a smile.
~END OF CHAPTER 5~
Note: I didn’t want to refer to Shirai Kuroko as Kuroko, because you know.. there’s gonna be confusion xD And for the next chapter, I swear that I will include LMC stuff, I promise! ;)
