Love, Music and Otaku - Chapter 18

~CHAPTER 18~

WARNING!! SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN SPOILERS INSIDE!! Proceed at your own risk..................

“Now that we’ve decided on what cakes to make, what songs should we perform in the school festival?” Rai asked.

“Hmm.. Let’s see...” Kii thought. “I’ll do Pre-Parade(Toradora!)... I can’t think of any anime songs that are sung by males.”

“Why don’t we do Jiyuu no Tsubasa(Shingeki no Kyojin) at the end then?” Oreki suggested. “Although it might be a little hard, since there are more German lyrics than in Guren no Yumiya(Shingeki no Kyojin).”

“We’ll go with that,” Kii decided. “Satoshi-kun, is your singing fine now?”

“Probably,” Satoshi answered vaguely. “But I won’t pull you guys down the water, I promise.”

“I want Sister’s Noise(To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S),” Ichigo said.

“I’ll go for female version of Hengen Jizai no Magical Star(Kuroko no Basuke) then!” Rai said.

“Now everything’s settled, should we practice our cooking skills or the songs?” Satoshi asked.

“Ah, for the cooking, I’ve everything planned,” Kii said, smirking. “We’ll go to Seirin High to practice in a classroom. Kuroko-senpai and Kagami-senpai have day offs basketball practice today, so they can help us three. Kagami-senpai’s a good cook.”

“In a classroom?!” Is that even a proper place to cook?!” Oreki said, shocked.

“I’ve heard Aida-senpai testing out her cooking in a classroom before,” Kii said. “Although it seems it wasn’t very nice.”

“Weren’t they busy preparing for the Winter Cup?” Ichigo asked, puzzled.

“Shiranai,  Kuroko-senpai immediately said he wanted to come after hearing that we’re all coming. Besides, I only asked Kagami-senpai in the first place,” Kii shrugged.

Ichigo blushed a little, knowing Kuroko’s intentions for following Kagami.

“Aww, I wanted to go to Kaijo High,” Rai said.

“I know both of you are dating, but Seirin High is the nearest,” Kii said, making excuses just to go for a short distance.

“Then, shall we go now?” Oreki said, about to open the door.

The LMC immediately set off to Seirin High.

Flashback - Valentine’s Day(14 February), before a new school year begins

“Ano..Kazuto-kun, today’s Valentine’s Day,” Kii asked, waiting for an obvious answer. She, Oreki and Satoshi were doing duty that day, cleaning the classrooms.

“Yeah...” Oreki said, not knowing of the hidden message.

“I made--”

“Kii-chan, the second-years need your help in some programming issues,” Kuroyukihime called out after she stepped into their classroom, unwittingly cutting Kii off her most important message to Oreki.

“Hai...!” Kazuto-kun, help me with my duties!” Kii called back before she handed her broom to Oreki and ran off with Kuroyukihime.

”K-Kii-chan! Dang it, now I have to stay back later today..” Oreki said, sighing as he continued sweeping the floor.

“It can’t be helped,” Satoshi shrugged. “If the second-years need her help, it means it must be something really important.”

“I guess so...”

By the time Kii had reached home, It was already late in the night. Ah... I didn’t get to give the chocolate to him at all... The fixing of the programming issues took so long... She had bought herself a bento, because Oreki had already finished dinner, and probably was already fast asleep. Kii sat down on a bench, and the area was cool and windy, and she was alone in the silent night. She took out a chocolate that she had made, which was meant for him. She took out her handphone and dialed Oreki’s phone numbers.

“The number you have dialed is--” Kii instinctively cancelled her call as she already knew that Oreki’s phone would be switched off when he slept so that he could get a full sleep. Ah.. If It knew that his phone would be switched off... why am I still calling him?! Baka.. baka.. baka..!

Her tears flowed down without her realising it and she felt like breaking the chocolate into pieces. But instead, she ate it. Baka.. baka.. BAKA!!! I hate you!! She bit the chocolate agressively, as if hating it.

The cold wind grew progressively stronger and of course, colder.

“I almost forgot... it’s still in the cold season... and I forgot to bring my jacket...” Kii realised, but it was too late. She was shivering non-stop due to the coldness, and her teeth chattering. Her body felt frozen like ice. But she managed to wipe away her tears.

“Hora,” a voice came from behind. It was familliar. This voice...!

“K-Kazuto-kun?!!” Kii was shocked. Oreki handed her a jacket and she immediately wore it. Her body was gradually getting warmer to a comfortable state.

“Today’s Valentine's Day... and it’s the day where girls like to give boys chocolate, so where’s mine?” Oreki asked cheekily.

“What kind of scene is this, a boy asking a girl for chocolate?!! It should be the girl who gives the chocolate first!” Kii replied, annoyed. “Besides, I already ate it.” She lied, trying to hide the remaining chocolate into her bag. “It’s not like you need to give me chocolates on White Day, anyway.” (Note: White Day is one month after Valentine’s Day, 14 March. It is when the boys give chocolates to girls to return the favour.)

“There’s still next year, you know,” Oreki tried to console her, after noticing she had cried, unknown to her.

“Fine! Next year I’ll definitely give you chocolates!” Kii said determinedly, pouting. “Let’s go home now, it’s late.”

While walking home, Kii asked, “How did you know I was out here? I thought your phone was switched off?”

“It’s switched off all right,” Oreki confirmed. “But I remembered today’s Valentine’s Day, and that you didn’t come for dinner today, I guessed that you’d still be outside, and it turns out I was right. Besides, I couldn’t sleep at all. And also, Inko-chan misses you.” (Note: Inko-chan is Oreki’s pet parrot.)

“Inko-chan? Well, I kind of missed him too,” Kii admitted. She smiled for a second before she unlocked her door to her apartment. “Oyasumi nasai, Kazuto-kun...”

“Oyasumi, Kii-chan.”

Both of them went inside their houses to get a good night’s sleep.

End of Flashback

Ah.. I know I said next year... but this has been bugging me for the past few months... I have to do it soon, and this is my only chance. Kii thought as she walked with the LMC members to Seirin High. They entered Seirin High and walked to the classroom where they would be meeting with Kuroko and Kagami.

“Konnichiwa, Kuroko-senpai, Kagami-senpai,” Kii greeted as she shoved the door open.

“Konnichiwa minna-san,” Kuroko greeted back.

“Osu,” Kagami greeted back too. “I’m not that good in cake-making, but I can give you some tips.”

“Thanks, guess I’ll need that,” Kii thanked.

“Kuroko-senpai!” Ichigo greeted happily.

“Konnichiwa, Ichigo-san,” Kuroko greeted. “A strawberry said to another strawberry that if we weren’t so sweet, we wouldn’t be in this jam.”

“K-Kuroko-senpai, that’s...!” Ichigo couldn’t stop laughing.

“Kuroko, why are you copying Izuki-senpai?!” Kagami was annoyed.

“Because they’re funny,” Kuroko lied.

“Kuronii, is Baki doing fine?” Rai asked.

“He is, thank you for asking. Although he might’ve been hit by a basketball again,” Kuroko replied bluntly.

His words made Rai pout. “Don’t curse him!!”

“Well, let’s get started,” Satoshi said as he walked to the table filled with cooking utensils. “First we’re making cheese cake, right?”

The others sat down on the empty chairs with separate tables. Kii opened her menu “Let’s see... we need this.. this.. this.. this... this... and this!” she said as she scrolled down the list of items in her virtual hologram inventory, tapping on them and making the ingredients appear on the table..

“You guys have cool high-tech stuff, huh,” Kagami commented.

“Kii-chan!! Where did you get these stuff from?!” Oreki asked, surprised and curious. If these were monster drops, I’d get free groceries every day!

“Not telling you,” Kii gave a smirk. “I was the only one who found this place in--” She realised what she had said and immediately stopped. Thank god I didn’t say it was in SAO Floor 79...

“In where?!!”

“I’ve said already, I’M NOT TELLING YOU!!”

“Can we start already?” Satoshi asked and everyone else sweatdropped.

“I guess so,” Oreki said as he picked up one of the utensils. “It’s not like we need to work hard or anything, anyway... we just have to participate in it--”

Burst Link.“We. definitely. have. to. win!! Take it seriously, BAKA!!!” Kii scolded, suddenly pointing a knife at him. It was glowing bright pink and it was obvious that she had almost used a skill on Oreki.

Everyone was terrified, except for Kuroko and Rai.

“Kii, stop playing with the knife!!” Kagami shouted.

Deja vu?!! Satoshi thought.

Kii spun the knife for a few times with her fingers before putting it down. “Argh, fine.”

(Note: Timeskip! :3) The cheesecake was finally done and Ichigo, Rai, Kuroko and Kagami had to taste it.

“Oishii... desu....” Ichigo said as sparkles surrounded her.

“This is so oishii!!” Rai complimented, taking a bite.

“Oishii desu,” Kuroko said.

“Where’s my share?!!” Kagami said, shocked. His table was empty.

“Gomen ne Kagami-senpai.. I took an extra piece because I can’t stop eating this...” Ichigo admitted, smiling.

“Goddammit Ichigo!” Kagami facedesked.

“Ichigo-san reminds me a bit of Murasakibara-kun,” Kuroko said, recalling his memories with Murasakibara.

“Eh? Really? That Purple Sweets Titan-senpai?” Ichigo asked, giving a little skeptical look. He really looks like a titan with a height of 2 metres.. Like the one that attacked Sasha’s village... Well, his hair reminds me of Annie too.

“Ichigo-san.. why didn’t you give me a nickname too?” Kuroko asked.

“Okay, how about... Light Blue...... Light Blue Ghost Titan?”

“NO!!! LIGHT BLUE BABY TITIAN SOUNDS BETTER!!!! “ Rai screamed in objection.

Sparkles filled Kuroko’s surrounding air.

“I-I’ve never seen Kuroko so happy before!” Kagami said.

(Timeskip to the part where they make the last cake :3)

They had already finished making a cheese cake and a chocolate cake, and now it was a strawberry cake.

“I think I see a second Murasakibara…” Kuroko gasped a little, pointing towards Ichigo.

“Am I really that tall?” Ichigo asked cheekily.

“ I think he meant in terms of your eating habits…” Kagami said, sweatdropping.

“Probably... I eat sweets almost everyday,” Ichigo confirmed, giggling a little.

(Note: Timeskip.. the strawberry cake is done~)

“Ano, Kii-san, could you pack another slice of this cake for me?” Kuroko asked.

“Eh...? Fine,” Kii said as she cut another slice of the strawberry cake and packing it into a small box.

“Kore wa... oishii desu..” Ichigo took a bite and she looked like she just went into heaven. “I wish I could eat this everyday.”

“You’ll get fat,” Kagami commented.

“I’m still eating it,” Ichigo pouted.

“It’s getting a little late, let’s pack up and go home,” Satoshi said, keeping track of the time.

“I guess so,” Oreki agreed. The LMC packed up their things and proceeded to leave Seirin High, and they said goodbye to Kuroko and Kagami.

Kii and Oreki walked home, as usual. Out of the blue, Oreki asked, “Why do you want to win this competition so badly?”

“Nothing,” Kii lied. “And you don’t need to know.”

Oreki stayed silent as they both continued to walk home.
