PART 2 - The Meeting
“Hime-sama---!!! Hime-sama----!!” Rinne called out for the missing cute little feline, combing the whole street area with stacks of papers clutched in her hand. The content was a beautifully sketched picture of a Siamese cat with white fur.
Catching a passer-by, she inquired with the paper, “Sir, have you seen this cat? It’s name is Hime-sama, if you see it later please call me at XX-XXX-XXXX!” The passer-by nodded his head, though he probably didn’t care about the cat, since it didn’t belong to him. Well, pretty much. Rinne continued her “quest”.
Meanwhile, some middle school girls were walking down the same street, chattering about their topic of the day, which, of course contains gossips. Annnndd strange stuff.
One of the girls squealed, “Hey, Natsuki-chan, did you know about this recent rumour? The same telephone number keeps appearing everywhere in this district, and it seems to be a ‘god’ that can fufill ALL your wishes if you call him!” She began fantasizing, thinking what would she wish for.
“Nah, that’s... Unpalatable,” Natsuki replied, shrugging. “If only life was *that* easy. It’s a scam, definitely.” Her response got some criticism from the other girls, but nevertheless, they remained chatting about the latest style and fashion.
Natsuki turned her head to face the road at a traffic light, wanting to cross the road. “I’ll go from here, bye everyone!” She waved to her friends before turning back to face the road again, waiting patiently for the red man to turn green.
Just then, she spotted someone -- a girl with two long, yellow twintails -- jump over the safety railings and... Dashed across the road like a lightning bolt! Worse still, a big and heavy truck was heading towards her!
“DON’T-------!!!!” Natsuki sprinted as fast as she could in the girl’s direction, trying to shield her from the incoming collision. Dire consequences? That was the last thing on her mind when she decided to shield her.
In a split second, the whole world went black in Natsuki’s eyes!
...
“Heeeeyy~ Are you awakeee~?” Rinne tried to nudge Natsuki awake. Still dreary-eyed, the first question came to her mind.
“...What happened to me..?” Natsuki probed. She felt nothing wrong with her body -- no pain at all! That’s weird... Then, she heard some commotion going on right beside her...
There seemed to be another body covered in blood, lying a few metres away from the truck! And THAT was Natsuki’s body!
“EEEEK---!! HOW DID--?!!” She was at a loss for words with her mouth agape. With panic and fear taken over her, she shook Rinne vigorously and interrogated, “What EXACTLY happened to me?!”
“S-S-Stop shaking! I’ll tell you!!” Rinne protested, and finally did Natsuki stop shaking her. “Look. You’re in your spirit form right now. That body over there is just your body. Only the body dies, but not the spirit. The spirit lives forever,” She explained.
“D-Does that mean I’m.. Dead..?” Natsuki bit her fingers, wild thoughts flashing through her mind. It triggered a river of tears flowing uncontrollably from her eyes and down her tender cheeks.
Rinne wagged her index finger like a dog’s tail. “Nope, you have just sustained injuries. Just let your body go to the hospital and when you return to your body, you’ll be fine!”
Natsuki wiped her tears off, heaving a sigh of relief. But something hit her. “Wait. You haven’t told me who ARE you. And how did you NOT sustain any injuries from the accident? I thought you were also hit slightly?” Suspicion began to rise in her.
“.. Uhh.. Well...” Rinne contemplated for a second. I’m pretty sure she won’t believe me if I say I’m a *god*... Sighing, she said, “Fine, but you must believe me.”
“Shoot it.”
“My name is Rinne, and I’m a god of calamity, but I claim myself to be a god of wishes. Well, I can fulfill wishes, but, I can also bring about calamities. Since I’m a god, I won’t sustain injuries, and never will. That’s all I can say, heavens’ secrets can’t be disclosed.”
Of course, Natsuki was flabbergasted by her seemingly cock-and-bull story, but what could she do? Natsuki decided to believe Rinne. But something struck her again. “Don’t tell me you’re the one who has been writing the same telephone number everywhere, saying you can fulfill any wish?”
“Bingo!” Rinne winked, doing a cool pose.
“Huh, I thought it was a *male* god.”
“Are you saying gods can’t be a female?!”
Natsuki chuckled heartily at their conversation. Seeing that she was back to normal, Rinne smiled.
“Okay, you’ve been out of your body for quite a long time now. Time to go back~!”
“Hey, wait--” Natsuki protested. “I haven’t finish--”
And, the whole world went black in Natsuki’s eyes again...
