~CHAPTER 20~
(Important Note Before Reading: In this chapter, part of it I’ll be using Oreki’s Point of View(POV). It means that I will use first-person, but the ‘I’ will be referring to Oreki. Same thing for the other characters’ POVs.)
Oreki’s POV
Luckily, the next day was Saturday, because Kii went home at 4am. She slept all the way till late afternoon, and I was really concerned about her.
“Ah..! I almost forgotten to buy a new volume of [insert manga name here],” I remembered, knocking myself on the head. I hurriedly got my bicycle which was near the outside of my house and rushed to the manga store before it closed early. I put the book on the wooden box in front of my bicycle and cycled home, enjoying the scenery.
Suddenly, I cycled past someone. She looked familiar. K-Kii-chan? But.. why didn’t she notice me? I stopped cycling and turned back. “Kii-chan!!”
Kii turned back, looking at me with tired eyes, yawning a little. “Ah, what is it, Kazuto-kun?” It was obvious that she just woke up and went outside. Maybe that’s why she’s tired.
“...... What are you doing outside here?” I asked, although this wasn’t what I wanted to ask. The words just couldn’t come out of my mouth.
“Buying ingredients,” Kii replied, but gasped a little because she realised what she had told me. Shimatta, I wasn’t supposed to tell him this!!
“Buying ingredients..? But I thought you’re coming to dinner at my house?” I asked with a puzzled look. Why was she buying ingredients? Then it hit me. The only thing she could make using ingredients was... sweets.
“Argh!! Urusai, urusai, urusai!! Just ignore what I’ve just said!” Kii shouted in frustration. “Anyway, I gotta go now.” She turned back and walked away.
“Ano...!! If this is what you want... I’ll have my answer ready by end of next week!!” I shouted to her.
Kii stopped for a moment before replying, “I see.” Then she continued walking.
There was an awkward silence as I cycled back home. Everything was quiet. Everything. Except for the annoying wind brushing against my cheeks. Even if there was some noise, my ears would’ve automatically muted it. Why? Because I was so focused on Kii’s words. I just wanted to know what Kii wanted to do. And these days our relationship is getting weaker. Just. what. is. she. going. to. do?!
And what’s going to happen to our class’s Vocaloid concert? Sure, we’ve rehearsed and practiced it already, but what’s the point if we don’t put our hearts in it? And our performance too....
(Timeskip) Just before I went to bed, I received a text message from Kii.
A party. At. my. house. This is my first time and what am I supposed to do?!! But looking back at my phone, my eyes focused on the words ‘Everything is fine, don’t worry.’ I gave a sigh of relief and switched it off, then I went to sleep.
End of Oreki’s POV
“Today’s the day where we sell our nendoroids, huh?” Oreki said, trying to start a conversation as he walked to school together with Kii. “Are they ready yet?”
“Yeah, and it should arrive in school in one hour’s time,” Kii replied. “I hope we sell all of them...”
They had to sell all 200 nendoroids in 3 days, while the school festival lasts for 2 days. And these activities had to be completed by this week, which means, this whole week there are no lessons.
(Timeskip to third day) “There are only 2 left... Ichigo and Rai’s nendoroids... Arghh!! We need 2 people to come and buy them right now!!” Kii said in frustration, facedesking her head.
“Sumimaseeen!!” a cheery voice greeted from the door.
“Eh?!!” Kii thought that voice was familiar. That annoying voice.
Kise and Kuroko stepped into the music room, with Kise waving his hand at the LMC. Kuroko just greeted, “Konnichiwa.”
“Baki!”
“Kuroko-senpai!” Both Rai and Ichigo shouted at the same time. “What are you doing here?!”
“We heard you guys were selling some stuff, so we thought we could visit,” Kise explained, giving a wink.
“Ugh, you’re annoying,” Kii pouted, looking away.
“I agree with Kii-san,” Kuroko added.
“Waah!! Kiicchi and Kurokocchi are so meaan~!” Kise cried.
“What are the remaining goods?” Kuroko asked.
“Let’s see.. Ichigo and Rai’s nendoroids,” Oreki replied.
“We need someone to buy them,” Satoshi said.
“Eh.. this is such a coincidence,” Kii commented.
Kuroko and Kise bought Ichigo and Rai’s nendoroids respectively.
“Yatta! We sold everything!” Kii cheered.
Kuroko left first because he had some things to do, much to Ichigo’s disappointment. Kise stayed for a while to chat with the LMC.
“So, did you guys do any cover recently?” Kise asked.
“Nahh...” Kii answered. “We don’t do covers unless we’re asked to.”
“So you don’t practice?”
“You could say it that way,” Oreki said.
“But there’s a performance coming up involving Kii and Oreki-kun,” Satoshi said.
“Yeah!!” Rai confirmed, enthusiastically jumping up and down. “We can’t wait to see it!!”
“But we have to take care of our booth, you know,” Ichigo said, more disappointed, and sighed.
“Tomorrow I’ll be busy, so I can’t see the concert,” Kise said.
“You better don’t come,” Kii said, staring daggers at him.
“Hai, hai..” Kise smiled a little, sweatdropping. “I have to leave now.” He opened the door, but just as he was about to step out of the room, Rai called out to him.
“Matte!!” she called out, holding a paper bag containing a handmade anime necklace in one hand, handing it to Kise. “I made this for you.” She smiled, wanting him to accept it.
“Ah... arigatou, Raicchi,” Kise thanked, taking the paper bag, then left. This made her blush a little.
“Ah..! Finally I gave him this!” Rai said, heaving a sigh of relief.
“What was in that paper bag, Rai-chan?” Ichigo asked out of curiosity.
“Hi~mi~tsu~” Rai broke it into separate syllables.
“Wakatta,” Ichigo said, smiling.
“I’ve got a surprise for you all,” Kii said suddenly.
“A surprise?” the other LMC members were puzzled. What kind of surprise?
“I’m going out for a while,” Kii said, stepping out of the room to receive something.
When Kii came back, she was holding a small package. Everyone was waiting for anticipation.
“Kore...” she ripped open the package, and inside was 5 keychains of Japanese hiragana letters - ‘ke’, ‘i’, ‘o’, ‘n’, ‘bu. (け、い、お、ん、ぶ, when put together, it says ‘Keion bu’/‘軽音部’, which means Light Music Club in Japanese.)
“Ah..! When you put together the syllables, it means Light Music Club!” Ichigo pointed out.
“Exactly,” Kii said. “And there are 5 members for 5 syllables each.”
“This is such a genius idea,” Satoshi commented.
“As expected of Kii-chan,” Oreki said.
“Who’s going to take which?” Rai asked.
“I’ll take ‘ke’, Kazuto-kun will take ‘i’, Satoshi-kun will take ‘o’, Ichigo will take ‘n’, Rai will take ‘bu’.”
“Sounds good to me,” Oreki said as he picked up the ‘i’ keychain.
Everyone took their respective keychains and attached them to their bags.
“Tomorrow’s the school festival..” Ichigo said, trying to start a conversation.
“Since we’ve sold everything... we should get a spot on the stage,” Kii assured.
“But... the school year is ending soon,” Rai said.
“.......” There was an awkward silence.
Oreki asked, breaking the silence, “Oh yeah, this Sunday we’re holding a party at my house, wanna come?”
“Eh?!! Really?” Satoshi, Ichigo and Rai squealed in excitement. “We want to come!”
“But for what reason are you holding a party?” Ichigo asked. “Is it your birthday?”
“Nah, it’s kind of like end-of-the-school-year party,” Oreki said.
“Souka..” Satoshi and Rai said.
“Want to practice for one last time before the school festival?” Kii asked, winking.
“Hai!”
