~CHAPTER 16~
(Note: Timeskip to summer holidays! :3)
The LMC met up with each other at the basketball court.
“Nee, Kazuto-kun, do you know how to play basketball?” Kii asked.
“Nope,” Oreki replied. “Kii-chan, if I remember correctly, you’re bad--”
“Urusai, urusai, urusaaaaai!” Kii shouted. “It’s not my fault that I’m the opposite of Kise-niichan!!” Although I did inherit some copying skills only to be used for music purposes...
“I haven’t tried either,” Satoshi said.
“For me.. well.. I’ve tried it before. But I chose badminton, so yeah..” Ichigo said.
“How do I say... in-between bad and normal I guess?” Rai thought hard.
“Eh? Rai-chan, you’ve played basketball before?” Oreki asked.
“Yeah,” she replied.
“Konnichiwa,” Kuroko suddenly popped out of nowhere and startled the LMC.
“Seriously, Kuroko-senpai! Why can’t you appear normally?!” Kii scolded.
“That’s the second time someone has told me this,” Kuroko replied with an innocent face.
“Arghhhhhhh!! Kuroko-senpai, why!!” Kii was frustrated with Kuroko.
“I think we should start now,” Kuroko decided.
Kuroko explained the basics and taught the LMC.
“I can’t seem to get the ball in the hoop,” Ichigo said disappointedly, catching the ball that bounced back from it.
“The trick is to throw at a higher angle,” Kuroko explained. “If you throw at a higher angle, there will be more surface area than throwing at a lower angle. But if you throw at 90 degrees, it’ll fall back down and hit your head.”
“Eh... I see.. But Kuroko-senpai, is your shooting good?”
“It’s better than last time... someone taught me.”
“Who..?”
“Aomine-kun.”
“Ehhh?!! That Aomine-senpai?!! I can’t believe it...”
“Let’s not talk about this,” Kuroko said, as if trying to hide some sad memories. “Shall we have a 3 vs 3 now?”
“3 vs 3...? You mean..?” Oreki said, thinking the obvious.
“It’s exactly what you thought, Oreki-kun,” Kuroko confirmed. “Also, Ichigo-san, you’re going to be in a team with me.”
“E-Eh?!” Ichigo blushed. I get to be the same team was Kuroko-senpai?!!
“I’m following Ichigo-chan!” Rai decided.
“I’m not exactly in a mood for this,” Kii said, already seeing the outcome of this. Her hands were only suitable for playing guitars.
“C’mon, let’s just play for fun,” Satoshi encouraged.
(Note: Timeskip!)
Kii has gotten the ball and she took a quick glance at the area around her and spotted Oreki. She tried to pass to him, but Kuroko came out of nowhere(again) and used Misdirection to change the direction to Ichigo
“Ah...!” Ichigo said as she caught the ball, moving 1 step backward due to the impact. Then she analyzed the situation and passed the ball to Rai. Rai tried to make a shot and it went in.
“Yatta!” Ichigo cheered.
In the twinkling of an eye, it was late afternoon and everyone decided to go home. Coincidentally, Ichigo and Kuroko had the same idea of going to the fast food restaurant that he always went.
“I like this place’s vanilla shakes,” Kuroko stated his preference. Both of them were queuing up to buy shakes.
“I like the strawberry shakes,” Ichigo replied.
“Ichigo-san eating ichigo shakes,” Kuroko said, trying to make a pun to make her laugh.
“Pffft, I don’t think that’s a pun,” Ichigo said, laughing a little. (Note: ‘Pffft’ means laughter)
“But you laughed. That’s good enough already, isn’t it?” Kuroko said.
Kuroko’s words stunned Ichigo for a while. Although she didn’t expect this, she felt happy. If only someone was there to make her laugh and be happy everyday.
They moved up the queue and it was finally their turn.
“One strawberry shake, please.”
“Ano, one vanilla shake please...” They both said at the same time. But what’s weird was, they ordered each other’s shakes. Not the shakes they wanted.
“One strawberry shake and one vanilla shake coming right up!”
“Eh..? Kuroko-senpai..?” Ichigo said, surprised.
“I wanted to treat you to strawberry shake, so...” Kuroko hesitated for a while as he didn’t know what to say. “Ano, thank you for the vanilla shake.”
Ichigo blushed. “Thank you too...” Although Kuroko remained poker-faced all the time, she could feel his feelings through his monotone words.
Kuroko and Ichigo walked home together, sipping on their shakes that they bought each other. The chirping crickets disrupted the peaceful and silent night. The moon shone brightly as if trying to be the sun of the night.
“Ano... Ichigo-san.. I just want to say..” Kuroko started a conversation.
“H-hai?” Ichigo could feel her heart beating fast and loud. Kuroko stopped walking and so did her. Both of them stared right into each others’ eyes and she blushed. She could feel Kuroko’s feelings by just staring deep into his light blue eyes.
“I’ll make you happy and laugh everyday, so don’t be sad from now on,” Kuroko assured, smiling a little. He held Ichigo’s hands and she could feel the warmth of it, although it was night. A gentle breeze blew over.
“Eh...? W-What do you mean? It’s not like I...” Ichigo suddenly stopped, knowing what he meant. She had a set of feelings kept deep inside her heart and hasn’t told anyone yet. But how did he know..?
“Yes, you are,” Kuroko said. “I stared deep right into your eyes. Unlike others, the door to your heart was opened, and it meant that you needed someone to come inside and untie the knot inside. But no one was willing to come in, so I decided to come in for you.” He smiled.
“This isn’t your most happy smile, but.... I’m happy. Thank you,” Ichigo thanked, shedding a few tears. The breeze blew again, as if approving of their relationship.
“Today’s shakes are super sweet.”
